THE FUTURE IS HERE … The Importance of Digital Marketing – Part 4

Over the past couple of months, I was asked about the importance of digital marketing by my clients and students. Most business owners are aware of the benefit of digital marketing but not everybody fully understands the power it has to grow a business. To help fill in the gaps, I have created a 4 Part mini-series on the Importance of Digital Marketing. Today we will look into Part 4 – What digital marketing tool should I use?

Before you can answer this question, you will need to look at who your potential customers or clients are. Fact is that the future will be defined by the Millennial generation. They will be the force that drives the economy, challenges long-held traditions, pushes for increased productivity and demand innovation. Millennials have now more spending power than the Baby Boomers and by 2020 Millennials will have a collective spending power of $1.4 trillion.

Why are Millennials important for our digital marketing strategy?  Millennials love social media. They have grown up in a social media revolution and embraced it with arms wide open. 43% of Millennials have liked more than 43 brands on Facebook, 63% stay up-to-date on brands via social media and 44% are willing to promote brands on their social networks. Millennials makeup 58% of mobile shoppers and are 2.5 times more likely than the average shopper to be influenced by a mobile app. Looking into these statistics shows the importance of having a good website and excellent SEO to be able to reach our desired target market.

With the above knowledge, the question arises of which digital marketing tool will be the most effective to reach your desired target market. As every business is different there is not one which fits all. However, a good guideline is to start with the most used social media platforms. In a survey conducted by Danny Burke on which are the most used social media websites & apps, the following 3 made the top.

Number 1 is Facebook with 1.71 billion users per month

Number 2 is WhatsApp with 1.1 billion users

Number 3 is Messenger with 1 billion users per month

There is a very high chance that your potential customers or clients will use Facebook. What are the benefits of using a business Facebook page? It provides you with increased exposure to potential customers, you can gather more leads, lower your marketing expenses, reach your target audience, analyse Facebook insights, build brand loyalty, increase your web traffic, boost your SEO, as well as check up on your competition. Facebook also owns Instagram, which is a big tool for Millennials.

To answer your question on which digital marketing tool would be most suitable for your business, you first have to analyse your target market, create an inviting website, invest in SEO, and write captivating content. Next step is to utilise the most used social media platforms by your potential customers or clients and start communicating and selling your products or services.
