THE FUTURE IS HERE … The Importance of Digital Marketing – Part 1

Over the past couple of months, I was asked about the importance of digital marketing by my clients and students. Most business owners are aware of the benefit of digital marketing but not everybody fully understands the power it has to grow a business. To help fill in the gaps, I have created a 4 Part mini-series on the Importance of Digital Marketing. Today we will look into Part 1 – What is Digital Marketing.

To summarise, digital marketing is the marketing of products or services using digital technologies, mainly on the internet, but also including mobile phones, display advertising, and any other digital mediums. That pretty much sums it up, but what does it mean?

You can use all the fancy techniques in the world if they are not based on a solid digital marketing foundation. It doesn’t matter how often you are posting, if you don’t have the right market, message, and mindset in place. That’s where it is vital to have an effective marketing strategy in place. Marketing without a solid strategy is like hoping for the best, which may or may not will work. Usually the chances of success are slim.

That’s one of the reasons why people shy away from digital marketing with the excuse that it doesn’t work for them. The marketing industry is built on providing entrepreneurs with the latest and best marketing tool, which will help them grow their business.

Technically speaking nearly any tool, tactic or tip can and does work. That’s why we can see that some companies are getting such great results with nearly every strategy out there. The reason why some fail has everything to do with the strategy behind it. Let’s explore what a successful digital marketing strategy looks like.

First of all, it requires the right mindset on how you approach your marketing and your business. Every business owner should aim to be the best in the market. So, what does it mean to be the best? It can mean anything like the fastest, nicest, cleanest, most polite, most fun or simply just dominate in one area.

Next is to become your customers most trusted go-to business. Excellent customer service is the key. Vital to the success of your digital marketing strategy is to analyse your primary target market. The better you can analyse your target market, the better will be your marketing strategy, and with that your business will grow.

When describing your target market, you should include demographics, geographic, and psychographic details. The better you understand your target market, the better you can make them feel understood. Now that you have analysed your target market and aware of the needs and wants, it’s time to put a successful message together.

Marketing is all about making your customer feel valued and understood, and that’s where choosing the right media comes in.

This is exactly where most business owner struggle with as there is an overwhelming amount of digital marketing tools around. It comes down to utilising some very simple marketing technics; analyse your target market, find out the wants and needs of our customers or clients and provide excellent customer service via their preferred communication channels.
